Alaska Airlines Flight 135 from Portland, Oregon was in the final procedures for landing at Ted Stevens Anchorage International Airport in Alaska, when the pilots were abruptly instructed to perform a go around today, Tuesday, May 28, 2014.

The Boeing 737 came within a quarter mile of an Ace Air Cargo Beechcraft 1900 departing for Sand Point, Alaska, when air traffic controllers radioed the Alaska Airlines pilots to turn back.

According to National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) spokesman Clint Johnson, with only a quarter mile between them, this definitely fell into the category of a near miss.

The commercial flight landed safely, and the NTSB will investigate.
