A turizmus alig kaparintotta meg lehetőségeinek felszínét

BEFEKTETÉS EMBERI TŐKEBE

As the sector continues to recover and grow, there is a pressing need to act now to meet the challenge of staffing the hospitality and tourism sector.

The Jamaica Centre of Tourism Innovation (JCTI), the Ministry’s training arm, is meeting this challenge head on by enhancing Jamaica’s competitiveness through the certification and licensure of workers in tourism, students and recent graduates studying Hospitality, Tourism or Culinary Arts.

The JCTI has facilitated the certification of some 8,767 persons since January 2018.

This initiative is the result of a major collaborative effort between both local and international educational partners, which facilitates internationally benchmarked certification, including the American Hotel and Lodging Educational Institute (AHLEI), the American Culinary Federation (ACF), HEART-NSTA, the Wray & Nephew Academy and Smith Tourism Research.

The future of tourism lies in the manipulation and exploitation of information and communications technology (ICT) capabilities such as big-data, big data analytics, block chain technologies, the Internet of Things, artificial intelligence (AI) and robotics. We, therefore, need urgently to capitalize on the opportunities for high-skilled employment being generated in the ICT-related fields in tourism.

Within this context, we continue to identify the relevant skill sets needed to fill jobs in the evolving tourism sector, with the anticipation that these skill sets will be translated into curricula that can be implemented as professional higher education programs by tertiary institutions in Jamaica.

This is another area ripe for investment, e.g., through skills training, online leaning platforms and infrastructure, just to name a few areas.

KÖVETKEZTETÉS

In closing, I reiterate that strategic public-private partnerships in investments have a critical role to play in the economic recovery of tourism from the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Jamaica’s tourism sector is ripe for investment. There has never been a better time to invest in Jamaica’s tourism product.  The continued show of confidence by investors even in a pandemic environment is evidence that Jamaica is still a coveted vacation destination and a powerful global brand.

We, therefore, look forward to working with CARAIA to capitalize on the numerous opportunities that currently exist so that we can build a truly inclusive, resilient and sustainable tourism sector.
